A few years ago I decided to try to get financial aid so I could finish my education. I applied and I got a pell grant! At the time I was alone with my 2 oldest kids. Once the youngest started kinder garden I figured it was time to make an example of myself and finish!
I searched the Internet for a Pell grant and how to apply. I was surprised at how easy it was, I applied on line, for free and the school received the grant directly. I signed up for 4 classes at a community college. The grant that I received was enough to cover my class cost, my books, and I had plenty left over to help with covering some child care for my kids so I could have extra study time.
After that first semester back at school I got married and shortly after had 3 more children! So needless to say I didn’t go any more, I only attended that one semester. Talk about life happening! Here I sit 8 years later considering going back again. My youngest is only 2 so I really don’t want to have to leave him ever day to go to class. I did a looking on line snooping around and found out that I can take video courses from home from the very same school I was going to before!
Really? I don’t have to find some special on line school that’s accredited? Wow, yes, i can go to the same local school and take video courses from home! This is great. So I can be at home with my little man, and do classes during nap time or at night after bed time. Everything is on line! Even the discussions. At most I’ll have to go to the campus, which is local, once or twice. Everything else is done at home. What is even better is that my costs, again, will be covered by the federal Pell grant! This couldn’t be better!
So my advise to anyone waiting until their little guy starts school so that they can finish school, is why wait? Go ahead and call local schools in your area and see what your options are as far as that goes. From what I have found from around here is that the classes are the same, the credits are the same, and I can do it whenever its convenient for me.
When my little man starts his journey in kindergarten, I won’t be saying now that he’s in school I can finish mine. Instead when he starts school I’ll be starting to look for a job because I will have have earned my degree, and I will be able to use a pell grant to help me achieve this!
