Playing Dress Up With 50’s Costumes

NJ Real Estate | Poetry

Wearing 50’s costume styles is really fun, mainly for little girls. The 50’s have so many different styles that add a lot of variety all in one-decade period. The movie Grease is a great way to get ideas of the 50’s styles.

Some people might think that there are not many opportunities to wear these fun filled costumes, but there are several. Older and younger children can wear them at the all-famous Halloween, themed birthday parties, and themed school dances. Younger children can also wear them year round for dress up or play tea parties.

No matter what style of the 50’s costume is worn, they must have a lot of accessories. Any 50’s costume style has several accessories to it. From hats to shoes and everything in between, the 50’s styles loved their accessories.

This article just focuses on female styles. Accessories around the head are cat eyeglasses, bows in the hair, scarves around the neck, various hats, and pearl necklaces. Several other accessories are frilly socks, umbrellas, shoes, purses, belts, aprons, and sweaters. Of course not all of these accessories are worn at once, they are just options.

A mature style in the 50’s is called the housewife. This style is a dress that has buttons on the torso and the skirt is filled out with crinoline. There is usually a belt separating the torso section from the skirt. The accessories to this style are a pearl necklace and an apron.

Two styles from the 50s that are similar are the baby doll and campus coed look. Each of these styles has a calf length skirt with crinoline underneath it, a shirt, black and white shoes, and a sweater. The differences are that the baby doll sweater rests on the shoulders and has a poodle skirt and the campus coed sweater is worn over top a collared shirt with a plaid skirt. The hair is different too because the baby doll hair is down and curled out with a bow in it and the campus coed hair is in a ponytail.

Another style is known as the waitress style. This style has a fit, but not tight, dress that is made with a bright pastel color. The accessories would be a simple apron and hat with the hair up or cut short. The feet of this style would wear simple shoes or roller blades.

These styles are just a few of the many that come from the 50’s. Buying costumes from the 50’s is a smart investment because they can be worn over and over again. They are also a classic and fun costume. – 35634
